What is the Aujeszky’s Disease (Pseudorabies) Vaccine?

Therapeutic Class:

  • Vaccine
Target Species:

  • Pig

Active Ingredients: Pseudorabies Virus

Aujeszky’s Disease (Pseudorabies) Vaccine is used to provide active immunization against infection due to the Pseudorabies virus in pigs. Vaccination prevents or reduces the severity of infections due to this disease.

Without immunization, Aujeszky’s Disease may lead to death, reduced growth rate, and decreased reproductive ability, leading to significant economic losses. Aujeszky’s Disease is highly contagious, so mass vaccination is recommended for the entire herd living on a farm. The presence of antibodies will help reduce the severity and likelihood of contracting the disease.

Each dose of the Aujeszky’s Disease (Pseudorabies) Vaccine contains a live, weakened viral component of the Bartha-K61 strain, which has been freeze-dried. It is intended for reconstitution and administered through intramuscular injection or through the oral/nasal route. Live vaccines have been shown to be more effective compared to inactivated strains.
