Ketoprofen Injection is anti-inflammatory drug used to reduce pain and inflammation in horses and livestock animals like cows or pigs. In horses, it is effective in reducing pain and inflammation caused by musculoskeletal conditions. It also reduces fever (pyrexia) caused by Bovine respiratory disease in cattle.

Ketoprofen is a non-narcotic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug in the propionic acid class. It is thought to work by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2, which results in lower levels of prostaglandins.

Precautions

Do NOT use Ketoprofen Injection for an animal that:

  • is a lactating dairy cow or a calf younger than 2 months old.
  • is a veal or dairy calf.
  • is dehydrated.

It’s used to reduce pain, inflammation, and fever.

What animals can be treated with Ketoprofen Injection?

It’s recommended for horses, cows, and pigs. This drug is not for use in dairy cows (even during the dry period), dairy or veal calves, or beef calves younger than 2 months old.

How is a Ketoprofen Injection used?

This medication has been manufactured as a liquid, which is packaged in a vial. It is intended to be administered by subcutaneous injection.

How should Ketoprofen Injection be stored?

This medication should be stored in a dark, dry location under 30°C. The vial should be sealed tightly when not in use. The unused portion should be used within 4 months of opening.

What is the withdrawal period for Ketoprofen?

The withdrawal time is 48 hours for meat.

Dosage

How much Ketoprofen Injection should be given to cattle?

The usual dose is 3mg per kg of body weight, given once per day for up to 3 days. Administer by SC injection only.

Side Effects
